making the most of Walgreens

Now here is a lady who knows how to shop. This is a game she invented and ended up with tons of stuff and an extra $10 in her pocket. Nice. Oh, the RR is for the register rewards. These are the coupons that print out when you buy a product for a future shopping trip that can be used as money.

Walgreens:
Start with buying this:
2 Neosporins for $8
use 2 $1 printed coupons;
1 bandaid for $3, use $1 coupon;
1 Ecotrin for $2, use $2.25 coupon;
2 Got2B haircare for $10, use 2 $2 printable coupons;
1 Nivea for $5, use $1 coupon...
Your oop should be about $18, your RR will be $22.

Next, do this:
1 Rembrant, $6;
1 Ecotrin for $2, use $2.25 coupon;
2 Got2B haircare for $10, use 2 $2 printable coupons;
1 Bayer about $2.50, use $1 coupon
get 2 filler items, so you can use 3 RR, so you'll then have ...
Total, about $13.50 plus your fillers (let's say 2 for $1 tissues). Now use the $5 RR from Nivea, the $4 RR from Neo/Bandaid, and the $2 RR from Ecotrin (even though this won't produce another RR for Eco, it's a wash because the coupon is worth more than the product to begin with).
Your RR will take off about $11 and your OOP will be about $4. You will get $15.50 in RR.

Next, do this:
1 Nivea body wash for $5, use $1 printable coupon;
1 Ecotrin for $2, use $2.25 coupon;
1 Bayer about $2.50, use $1 coupon.
1 filler item (50 cents?)
Your total will be about $7. Use $6 RR from Rembrant. Your oop will be about $1.

Lastly, do this:
1 Ecotrin for $2, use $2.25 coupon;
2 Got2B haircare for $10, use 2 $2 printable coupons;
1 Bayer about $2.50, use $1 coupon,
2 fillers ($1?)
Your total will be about $9.50.
Use $5 RR from the Nivea and a $2 from the Ecotrin.
Your oop will be about $2.50 plus tax.

Your remaining RR after 4 transactions will be:
3 $5 RR from Got2B= $18
2 $6 RR from Rembrant=$12
3 $2.50 RR from Bayer=$7.50
1 $2 RR from Ecotrin= $2
which isr a total of $39.50 in RR for your to spend and you will have the following items:
4 Neosporins,
1 Bandaid,
4 Ecotrin,
6 Got2B,
2 Nivea,
3 Bayer,
1 Rembrant product.
Your OOP will be about $30, you will have all the above products and your will still have almost $40 in RR!
Yay!

I did it anyway

Well since Delano was offering triple coupons I couldn't resist in spite of the fact I'm irritated they excluded the central valley. I have to admit it was worth the drive. They are doing triple coupons up to .75 cents and they will double up to $4. They were taking internet coupons this time, and still doubling or tripling which they said they would not do from the corporate office, but the store said they would. It was also supposed to be limited to 25 coupons but the cashier let me use all 56 of my coupons. So that was really nice. I have to say it was also one of the nicest kmarts I have ever been to. The store was clean, lots of cashiers, and they were super nice about the coupons. Ok, so here is my report on my best deals. Old spice deodorant for .33 cents, Rite Guard deodorant .50 cents, Windex for $1, Nature source cleaner .79 cents, Ziploc bags $1, Scrubbin bubbles wipes 2/$1, Dawn dishsoap .50 cents, green works wipes $1, Oust air freshener FREE, Fantastik .50, Jelly .85 cents, Pepsi 6 pack bottles FREE, cookie mix .14 cents, Frosting .14 cents, Ranch dressing .66 cents, rice cakes .49 cents, pringles FREE, Lipton noodles FREE, mustard .49 cents, sour cream FREE. My subtotal was $195 and I paid $69. Well worth the $8 it cost me to drive there.

Why????

I emailed Kmart and asked them for a list of the participating stores in California that will be doing double coupons next week and below is the response I got. I am absolutely floored. Out of every kmart in California ONLY the stores in the central valley will not be participating. Why? Out of the entire state this is certainly the poorest part of it, but we can't participate? Now I don't mind following the rules but I find it ridiculous that these are the ONLY stores that are not participating. I enourage all my blog readers to please write to kmart and protest this exclusion.

Dear Beth Mendoza,

Thank you for contacting Sears Holdings Corporation regarding the Double Coupon Event that we are promoting from 4/19-4/25. Here is the list that you requested.

California Double/Triple Coupon Event
The following stores are doing a TRIPLE coupon event:

Delano , Wasco, Bakersfield , Tehachapi and Taft.

Stores NOT participating:

Clovis , Dinuba, Kingsburg, Jackson , Placerville , Auburn , Tulare , Lemoore and Visalia .

Stores Participating in the DOUBLE Coupon Event:

Big Bear Lake, Bishop, Mckinleyville, Eureka, South Lake Tahoe, Chico, Coalinga, Grass Valley, Lakeport, Lancaster, Los Banos, Atwater, Manteca, Modesto, Oakdale, Paradise, Redding, Yuba city, Rancho Cordova, Citrus Hts., Rocklin, Sacramento, Pleasant Hill, San Leandro, Salinsa, Pataluma, Pinole, San Mateo, Freedom, Hollister, Santa Rosa, Fairfield, Redwood City, Hayward, Antioch, Concord, Scotts Valley, Stockton, Lodi, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Ramona, Oceanside, San Ysidro, Chula Vista, Valencia, Riverside, Temple City, Diamond Bar, West Covina, Dudahy, Anaheim, Redlands, Ontario, Banning, Burbank, Costa Mesa Harbor City, Bellflower, North, Carson, Hemet, Camarillo, Goleta, Los Angeles, Arroyo Grande, Fontana, Atascadero, Santa Paula, Long Beach, Ridgecrest,Blythe, El Centro, Desert Hot and Indio.

We appreciate your business, and value you as a customer. We certainly hope you will continue to make Sears Holdings Corporation your choice for quality and value.

Update:
I just got another email from Kmart that basically said better luck next time from my inquiry as to why we are being excluded. Are you kidding me?

Another update:
Below is the latest email. Someone isn't being truthfull here. I was originally told that it was up to the store to participate or not. That Kmart was encouraging everyone to do it, but it was their choice. Now they are making another statement. Not to mention remember when the Clovis Kmart discontinued the promotion in the middle of the week stating they decided not to participate after all?

Dear Beth Mendoza,
Thank you for contacting Kmart regarding the Kmart Triple and Double Coupon Event. We appreciate your interest in this promotion, and understand your concern with it not being offered in every area of California. The locations are chosen by the corporate office for this promotion. These events are still in a testing phase, and will not be offered in every location during each event. We apologize for any frustration this may have caused you.

Sincerely,

Jessica C.

Bank of America

Bank of America has a new program for their customers to give a rebate back on their spending. Whoever heard of a bank giving money away? Neat program though. Check it out if you have an account with them.

The bank recently introduced its “Add It Up” program, which gives you rebates at more than 270 popular sites, such as Barnes & Noble and Best Buy.

Shop between now and July 12 and the bank will double your cash back at
featured sites including Walmart, Sears, Target, Staples and Home Depot. That means the rebate jumps to 4 percent at Walmart and to 8 percent at Target.

7 ways to save up to $1,000 a year

1. Bottled Water - Switch from bottled water to a filter for tap water and save $250/year.

2. Extended Warranties - Skip the warranties and purchase with a credit card that extends the manufacturer's warranty. The savings obviously varies depending on what you're purchasing (i.e., what you would have spent on the extended warranty). Or skip it all together. Most are never used.

3. Gym Memberships - Keep track of all of the discounts available to you, such as affiliations with certain organizations/membership groups.

4. Overdraft Fees - Some banks will re-order your transactions so that your biggest purchases are run through first, and deposits last, so that they can stick you with expensive overdraft fees (protection is typically $5-$10/year).

5. Organic Produce - There are many fruits and vegetables that aren't exposed to a lot of chemicals, and thus, aren't worth the extra bucks for going organic.

6. Auto Insurance - You can get discounts if you don't drive a lot, so call your insurer to see if you qualify.

7. Music Downloads - Shop around, as changes to song formats have opened up more places to buy music, and thus, greater opportunities to save.

Free ham or turkey

In the sunday paper there is a rebate offer for up to $20 on your ham or turkey. You have to purchase $40 worth of unilever products between 4/1 and 4/30 to qualify which does not have to all be purchased at once. There are also coupons for the unilever products. Not too bad of a deal.

By the way I added a link to a really neat website that tells you the shelf life of your food.

This is Cool!

Now this is cool! I've heard about turning everything off in your house and then going out and watching your meter run due to all the stuff plugged into the outlets. The makers of this product say you will save approximately $20 a month off your bill. That adds up to $240 annually. Sounds good to me. You can buy these things at Amazon or Smarthomeusa.

*Smart Strip Energy Savings
24 hours x 7 days = 168 hours per week total, if left on.
9 hours x 5 days = 45 hours per week used, if shut off.
168 hours total b. 45 hours used = 123 hours of energy saved.
123 hours saved / 168 hours total = 73% energy saved.

The following is a sample of what the smart strip can be used with to help you automate: Control Outlet Switched Outlets
Computer All computer peripherals, desk lamp
TV Home theaters, DVD, Cable box
Fluorescent Lamp Fan, home Stereo, small heater
Home shop equipment Work light, dust collector, shop vac.

what can you afford?

I had a shocking conversation with the nurses the other day. Do you know they have no idea how to decide if they can afford something or not. As in how much of their income should go towards their home.(37%) Well, maybe not so shocking after all. I think I found it shocking coming from a bunch of smart women. Truth be told, I never knew how to portion it out either. When I bought the house I have now, it was probably, more like definitely, more than I could afford. Now with double the income I used to have, it's about right. Deciding whether or not you can afford something does not include looking in your bank account to see if you have any money. Keeping a percentage of money for each category of your life is a far better way to figure it out. That way when life's little emergencies come up you have it in the bank instead of your emergency going on a credit card costing far more than it already is. The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets” (Proverbs 21:20).
We should never depend on the bank to tell you what you can afford. They are not privy to every expense in your life, and truly have no way of knowing what you can afford. Not to mention it is not in their best interest for you to have a savings plan. In order to keep this economy going at the rate it was going, it includes for you to spend, spend, spend. I'm praying that we all learn this lesson and we never again see such a economic downturn in our country and in particular our private lives. God has left us a perfect blueprint for our money that I think is far more trustworthy than any bank out there.
